A Picnic At Victoria Park With Brittany

One of the items on Brittany's summer to do list is a picnic. So this past week we went to our gem of a park, Victoria Park, and had a picnic lunch.

First we had to follow the paths and water to find the perfect picnic spot.

Don't willow trees look graceful?

I like how they lean right over the water.

Along the way we admired this heron stalking his prey.

Finally we found a perfect spot under a willow tree.

Brittany had made us egg salad.

We listened to an older gentleman across the river play his harmonica while a duck swam our way.

Dessert was fresh fruit and a yummy cupcake Brianne had made.

And finally here's Brittany in front of the black eyed susans that grow throughout the park.

It was a lovely, serene and relaxing spot for a picnic, we really should do it more often.

Washington and Area Trip Highlights - Part 2

Happy Sunday all! Today is the last day of vacation for me, its back to work tomorrow :( but its been a good break.

I thought I'd share a few more highlights of our trip today.

Here's a pic of one of the Smithsonian buildings, you could spend a week just touring the Smithsonian!

Here's Brittany and I in front of Mount Vernon, George Washington's plantation.

We stayed in Alexandria which is a very historic town and it still has a few cobblestone streets.

We went to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home, very different from Mount Vernon.

Brittany exiting one of the buildings at Jamestown.

A view of Neptune at Virginia Beach.

Another beach, Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, just a gorgeous beach with a wonderful wooden boardwalk.

Couldn't pass by without a stop at Hershey,PA.

A view of the battlefield at Gettysburg.

I'll share some more detailed photos of a few of the places we visited soon.

Washington and Area Trip Highlights - Part 1

Today I thought I'd share part 1 of the highlight photos from our recent trip to Washington DC and nearby areas. But there are some locations that will also get their own dedicated posts.

Our first stop was to Arlington National Cemetery which is way bigger than I imagined.

We toured the Washington Masonic Temple which was extremely interesting. We did make our way up each of the floors to the obeservation deck at the top of this tower.

We had made special arrangements to join an interior tour of the Capitol, a truly spectacular building.

We then walked the Mall to the Lincoln Memorial on a very hot day! Who knew it would be so hot in Washington!

Here we are on the side of the Lincoln Memorial and you can see the Washington Monument and the Capitol in the distance.

We made a special trip to the Washington National Cathedral, the 6th largest cathedral in the world and it is truly impressive.

We walked around Georgetown which is built along the edge of the old C&O(Chesapeake and Ohio) Canal.

And here we are in front of the White House(rear of the house). This is as close as we could get and as it was raining I'm holding an umbrella up out of the way of the house, lol.

More to come soon.

Little Red Wagon Challenge #43 - Back To School

Hi all!

I'm back from a week and a half long trip to Washington D.C., Williamsburg and Gettysburg. We really learned a lot of American history while we were gone and I'll share some highlights in future posts.

Today I'm sharing my creation for this week's Little Red Wagon Back to School challenge as suggested by Avril.

I recently became the proud owner of a Cricut and decided to use it to cut out and piece together an apple. I then adhered it to a large wooden paperclip I've had for ages:

I think this would be a great back to school gift for teacher or student to hold papers, photos or other reminders.

Please join us over at Little Red Wagon this week and show us your altered creations. We love to see what you create! Be sure to stop by and see all the other terrific creations too!

Little Red Wagon Challenge #41 - Summer

Its Wednesday and time for another Little Red Wagon challenge.

This week Joanne challenged us to use a summer theme.

This past weekend I started scrapbooking some of my photos from my Hawaiian vacation and I think this one kind of speaks of summer:

The colours and the hibiscus not mention the location certainly make me think of summer!

Please join us over at Little Red Wagon this week and show us your summer themed creations. We love to see what you create! Be sure to stop by and see all the other terrific creations too!
